John Louis-Strakes Lopez, Ph.D.

Hi there!

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in Data Science Edcuation at University of California, Berkeley. I hold a Ph.D. in Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. I am a 3DBR Teacher-Scholar. Let's break that down:

• I study Data-Driven learning environments. This includes, but is not limited to, digital assessments, video games, and learning analytics dashboards. Particularly, I am interested in which exposures to data influence student epistemological development. As students navigate deluges of data, including data they manipulate through analyses, I want to better understand how this exposure relates to personal and social ways of knowing.


• I like to conduct Design-Based Research. In doing so, my work involves designing and implementing prototypes and new technologies to address problems of educational practice. Through studying user interaction with new technologies, I theorize how they learn within the new technologies. I also develop new digital tools for students and practitioners.


• I love teaching and mentoring others! I enjoy the classroom and personal relationships to enhance STEM education. Moreover, I aim to have my scholarship be just as useful for practitioners and students, not just academics.
